Kaeru is a 2D animated short film about a young Japanese woman’s journey at breaking away from societal norms, inspired by a famous poem by Matsuo Basho. Bounded by the restrictiveness of Japanese society, the main character, Kokoro, hesitates to make the decision of leaving the country to be with her lover. A guardian in the form of a frog watches over her, and gives the nudge that she needs.

The story revolves around a cynical man living inside the vending machine. He cheats people of their money by stopping the snacks from being dispensed. He intends to use the money for his own gain, to buy a house. A little girl comes along and buys a snack from the machine. The man performs the usual routine of pulling the lever. The girl is dismayed and stares at the snack longingly. The man is led on by her puppy face and makes a decision whether the snack is to be dispensed or not.

My Final Year Project is a 2D short animation, titled ‘Swell’. It is a story about a boy, named Bleu, who learns that he should be satisfied with what he has. It started out as a simple idea about balloons having feelings, and is targeted towards kids for its simple moral and look of the film. The film was animated using TV Paint.
